Where to Begin

Some opportunities to serve in local government are “appointed positions” including those on County/City Boards and Commissions or to fill the remainder of a term when vacancies occur in elected offices.

Seats on Boards or Commissions
The County of Santa Clara and almost every city in Santa Clara County has BOARDS and/or COMMISSIONS that enable citizens to provide advice and input into policies and issues affecting the county or municipality. Citizens must apply for the positions when they become open to be appointed. Some cities even offer opportunities to students in high school.
